The word "Gospel" means "Good News." Gospel music does more than just sound sweet - it literally moves its listeners. Whether it's swaying with the chorus, tappin' along with the quartets or simply raising hands to the rhythm of soul-stirring singers, gospel is one form of music that needs to be seen and heard.

Patricia's gospel music workshop clients include Saint Margaret's of Scotland Church in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Central United Church in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Women's Festival of Song Harmony Bazaar and the International Ukulele Ceilidh.

In this workshop, we explore gospel music through song, rhythm and movement. Everyone who loves and enjoys singing and strumming is welcome. Bring your voices, instruments, cymbals, shakers, etc. Come and be moved musically at this fun and exciting workshop.

Jazz is an American art form and an international phenomenon! Jazz is not the result of choosing a tune, but an ideal that is created first in the mind, inspired by one's passion and willed next in playing music.

Jazz music is not found in websites or books or even written down in sheet music. It is in the act of creating the form itself, that we truly find Jazz.

On June 25, 2016, the Starfish volunteers, Chester Drama Society volunteers and the Chester Playhouse came together to raise funds for the Starfish Refugee Project. This song, "What a Wonderful World" sung by Patricia Watson and Musical Friends, embodies the hope that humanity will some day learn to embrace diversity for the awesomeness it can offer. If only we could learn to live together and recognize the humanity in everyone.

An academic definition of Jazz would be "A genre of American music that originated in New Orleans circa 1900. It is characterized by strong, prominent meter, improvisation, distinctive tone colors and performance techniques, and dotted or syncopated rhythmic patterns."

But Jazz is so much more than that! This workshop includes a brief lesson on the history of jazz. We then focus on: Musical and lyrics formulae; Improvisation and different styles of jazz.

Testimonial for Patricia Watson gospel & jazz workshops

"Patricia Watson has presented music workshops for Harmony Bazaar Festival in Lockport and what a wonderful experience. Of course it is a joy to sing along with Patricia and to feel her strong and beautiful voice holding up our voices, but the most fun was the experience of joining her on stage for her closing number in her gospel concert.

"Wow - the lady shares and she is all inclusive and an encourager.

"On another occasion, there we were at the beautiful Beach Center in Lockeport: waves lapping outside, friends creating rhymes, folks strumming and drumming, all of us eager to get up and sing the jazz tune we had created at Patricia's urging.

"Somehow Patricia brings fellowship into the learning experience and music becomes a happy event, can I say, a party!!"
Cindy Embree, Shelburne County Women's Fishnet
